“GOP victory still goes through God”
December 2, 2008
An article by Rod Dreher on the USA Today opinion page:
“McCain lost because the economy is collapsing on the watch of an unpopular Republican president, and he had no idea what to say about it. McCain lost because his party is incompetent. McCain lost because his choice of Sarah the Unready cast doubt about his judgment. And McCain lost because Barack Obama ran a great campaign.
Where is Jesus in any of that?”

Questioning Obama’s faith
November 18, 2008
‘Crunchy Conservative’ Rod Dreher picks up where Joe Carter left off, commenting on a 2004 interview with Cathleen Falsani in which the president-elect said the following:
FALSANI: Who’s Jesus to you?
OBAMA: Right. Jesus is an historical figure for me, and he’s also a bridge between God and man, in the Christian faith, and one that I think is powerful precisely because he serves as that means of us reaching something higher. And he’s also a wonderful teacher. I think it’s important for all of us, of whatever faith, to have teachers in the flesh and also teachers in history.
Writes Dreher:
“Unless Obama was being incredibly and uncharacteristically inarticulate, this is heterodox.”

“What preachers can learn from Obama”

Five tips posted at Read Better, Preach Better, based on the president-elect’s victory speech in Chicago (HT: BHT):
“3. He was understated… and it worked
With such a momentous occasion, I would expect someone else to be swept away with emotion. Yet Obama was calm and steady. It would have been easy to ride that wave of undulating excitement and emotion. Instead, Obama chose to speak with reserve and poise. The effect of this, for me, was to think that this guy is in control, and is serious about the challenge ahead.”
Social media a boon for Obama

Rhett Smith discusses the Obama campaign’s use of sites like Myspace, Facebook and Twitter:
“Obama dominated the social media world…which is where the young voters live. It’s a world they inhabit, trust, socialize, converse, and confer with one another.”
