How do we interpret the Song of Solomon?

Michael Spencer (iMonk) takes exception to what many evangelical preachers have said about the book:

“The Song of Solomon simply isn’t a detailed instruction manual for marriage and sex. It’s ancient middle eastern love poetry. It’s sensual and it speaks to the gift of sexuality in God’s good creation.”
